Bitcoin rebounded above $80,000 and Zcash gained 11.7% after Democrats won Congress, while an imminent Zcash upgrade adds a separate catalyst for traders.

Bitcoin climbed back above $80,000 and Zcash rose 11.7% as crypto markets recovered after Democrats won control of both chambers of Congress in the U.S. midterms. CoinDesk reported that Bitcoin traded around $80,484, up 5.7% over 24 hours, during Asian morning trading on Thursday, Nov. 5. The rebound followed an early selloff, but the price snapshot does not establish whether Bitcoin will hold that level.
The move shows how election uncertainty and a network upgrade can shape crypto prices at the same time, without proving either will sustain the rally.
What helped Bitcoin recover after the election?
Bitcoin briefly fell toward $75,700 on Wednesday as election results came in, then rebounded alongside U.S. stocks, according to CoinDesk. Its report linked the recovery to falling oil prices and a weaker dollar: Brent crude fell more than 8% on Wednesday, the S&P 500 gained 1.6%, and the dollar weakened. BTSE chief operating officer Jeff Mei told CoinDesk that traders were betting the Iran conflict and high oil prices were more likely to ease.
Those figures describe the market conditions reported alongside the rebound; they do not establish that politics alone drove crypto prices. Other major tokens rose too: Ether gained 8% to about $2,425, while Solana added 5.9% to $96. The gains therefore coincided with a broader market recovery, while their durability remained an open question.
What gives Zcash a separate catalyst?
Zcash rose 11.7% to about $1,318, with $1.2 billion traded over the preceding 24 hours, CoinDesk reported. The token’s move came ahead of NU7, a planned Zcash network upgrade that reduces the target time between blocks from 75 seconds to 25. The Zcash Foundation’s Zebra 7.0.0 release announcement says the upgrade is planned for around Nov. 5 at mainnet block height 3,543,405.
Shorter block intervals could reduce the wait for transaction confirmations, but they do not guarantee faster crediting by exchanges, which set their own confirmation requirements. CoinDesk estimated that a service waiting for three confirmations could see the expected wait fall from nearly four minutes to about 75 seconds if it keeps that requirement unchanged. The upgrade’s timing offers a possible Zcash-specific factor alongside the wider market rebound, though the price rise alone cannot show how much traders attributed to it.
Does the election result change crypto’s policy outlook?
The election adds a policy question to the market picture: the incoming Democratic majorities could make crypto legislation harder to pass and bring more scrutiny of financial privacy and illicit finance. Mei told CoinDesk that the CLARITY Act in its current form was unlikely to pass; that is his assessment, not a confirmed legislative outcome. The new majorities are due to take office on Jan. 3.
CoinDesk also reported that a Zcash community policy memo warned privacy could face greater scrutiny, while making the case for private payments on consumer-safety, business-confidentiality and civil-liberties grounds. For readers tracking the sector, the immediate distinction is between the confirmed price rebound and the unresolved policy and market outlook. Bitcoin’s return above $80,000 and Zcash’s double-digit gain mark a sharp recovery, but neither settles what comes next.
